Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor unveil an eight-page interim report from the Advisory Council on the Implementation of National Pharmacare, a panel the Liberal government established in last year’s budget

A federal government-appointed panel’s initial report on pharmacare does not address any of the vexing questions about how universal prescription-drug coverage would work or who would pay for it, according to groups representing doctors, patients and the private-insurance and pharmaceutical industries.

The seven-member council, led by former Ontario health minister Eric Hoskins, urged the government to adopt a program whose core principles would include universal coverage of prescriptions based on medical need, consistent drug coverage across provincial lines and a “robust pharmaceutical management system” that would help to keep drug costs in check.

Mr. Morneau would not say whether his government intends to include any funding for national pharmacare in its March 19 budget, the last before Canadians are scheduled to go to the polls in October. Steve Morgan, a health economist and pharmaceutical-policy expert at the University of British Columbia, predicted the federal budget would include some money to establish a national drug agency – a relatively inexpensive undertaking compared with paying the federal share of a single-payer, government-funded pharmacare system.

But a national formulary would be new for Canada. “This [idea] is either ridiculously simple, or very complex and politically challenging,” Mr. Morgan said. “I think it’s probably more the latter.”

All designed by Hoskins who was a complete failure as a Health Minister in Ontario , not surprising!

They have no idea how to implement this program I am weak in the knees . what are they doing each day going to work . New leadership is obviously needed here which get our country some serious help medically speaking .

That’s because they have no idea as this was just another diversion tactic by the liberal_party and JustinTrudeau to try and get Canadians to stop paying attention to his Lavscam dumpster fire!!

More smoke and mirrors by the liberal_party and JustinTrudeau to attempt to distract Canadians from SNC. ... or am I interpreting this differently? SNCLavelin gmbutts

Shiny penny theory. 'Hey everybody quit looking at JWR and SNC. Look over here!'...nothing more

Thats the scary part!!! Nationalized pharma care means what!!!!

Mr Moreau has that “How in the hell are we going to pay for this?” look.

Especially after that idiot Trudeau agreed to raising drug costs in the USMCA....this seems beyond stupid...agree to higher drug costs then try to fund a national drug plan

Ahhh the promise to get re-elected is almost out, first legal weed, now free drugz to get re-elected.

Did they say can they throw in dental? That couldn’t cost much more.

This announcement did not deserve such a large press conference. It was a stunt to distract from the SNC-Lavalin controversy.

Causes it’s 8 pages long and BS

The announcement was intended to pacify the liberal minions who didn’t care how things work
