Tuesday’s game was halted in the 84th minute with Orient leading 1-0 after a supporter ran onto the pitch towards referee Stephen Martin to alert him that a member of the public needed medical attention in the East Stand.The supporter was swiftly joined by several more members of the home crowd as they sat on the pitch at the home end to draw attention to the emergency.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called yesterday at 9:28pm to reports of a person becoming unwell at Leyton Orient Football Club, on Brisbane Road. “We treated a man at the scene, but very sadly, despite our teams’ best efforts, he was later pronounced dead.” An Orient statement added: “Despite the best efforts of Derek’s fellow supporters and medical professionals from the club’s on-site paramedics and doctors, Lincoln City and the London Ambulance Service, he sadly lost his life.
