The Australian’s NSW Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Premier Gladys Berejiklian is risking her government's re-election by making stadium redevelopment a key issue in the NSW state election. The $730 million demolition and rebuild of Sydney’s Allianz Stadium has been given the green light as part of the government’s $2 billion stadium rebuild plan.

Labor has slammed the move, saying it will use the money to fund additional spending on health and education. Mr Clennell has told Sky News that Ms Berejiklian’s ‘weak salesmanship’ is overwhelming her government’s message. The whole political debate is now focussed on stadiums, Mr Clennel says, which leaves open the possibility that Labor could come-from-behind and win government.
