Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers says pay transparency can be ‘problematic’

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A group of health workers in Newfoundland and Labrador is calling for the provincial government to make changes to pay equity legislation in order to improve health outcomes.

The group called for comprehensive pay equity and pay transparency legislation that applies to all private-sector and public-sector employees. The DWHN specifically asked for several changes to the legislation, such as enshrining pay equity as a human right, removing exemptions for contract workers, and including an independent oversight agency to enforce it.— AnnMarie Boudreau

Also included in the records obtained by SaltWire was an email exchange earlier this year between a former communications official in Parsons’ department and St. John’s Board of Trade CEO AnnMarie Boudreau. Another letter obtained in the access request was sent by Paul Barnes, the Atlantic Canada and Arctic director with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers .

“Excluding salary information from a job posting is one way an employer can test a candidate interest. People who apply without knowing compensation levels are often passionate about the type of work, the industry and the employer,” Barnes wrote.
