Man arrested for going to gym after being ordered to stay home in case he spread measles

A man was arrested for sneaking out of his house to go to the gym after being ordered to stay home in case he gave people measles.

Jeffrey Murawski, 57, reportedly hid in his wife’s car so she could drive him to his local fitness center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He concealed himself so that a sheriff’s deputy stationed outside his house would not spot him leaving. His alleged deception took place on May 1 last year, while Murawski had been ordered to observe a curfew. It was put in place after officials were unable to confirm that he had been immunized against the potentially-deadly disease.

Jeffrey Murwaski reportedly sneaked out of his home five days into a fortnight-long measles quarantine to go to the gym. He is said to have been spotted by a deputy, and has now been charged with putting others at risk of getting the illness Murwaski is thought to have been exposed to the illness just before the curfew began, putting him at risk of passing it on to others. His alleged escape from his home saw both Murwaski and his wife Christine Bennett, 58, charged with misdemeanor exposing the public to a communicable disease last Friday.
