The Rhondda MP tells Sky News how a shorter-than-usual haircut allowed his husband to spot the melanoma.

Bryant spotted melanoma after shorter haircutLabour MP Chris Bryant fought back tears as he told Sky News how he felt like he had been"punched in the stomach" after being diagnosed with skin cancer.

The Rhondda MP described how a shorter-than-usual haircut allowed his husband to spot the melanoma before Christmas, although he dismissed it at the time as"a tiny little mole". Sporting the scars from a skin graft where the melanoma was cut out of the back of his head, the former minister said:"There was no pain, I'd get a bit of an itchy scalp in the winter anyway, so it was slightly itchy and I could feel it was a bit raised - about the thickness of a 2p coin maybe."

He explained how, on his birthday on 11 January, he made the decision to get what he considered a mole to be checked by a doctor. On initially being told he had a melanoma, the 57-year-old said:"My heart sank at that moment because I know that melanomas are a pretty nasty form of skin cancer. At a later appointment, Mr Bryant was told he had a stage 3b melanoma - an advanced form of skin cancer.

Best wishes to you Chris. Politically, we are poles apart, but fellow travellers , I’ve been there, twice!!——“You have to accept whatever comes & the only important thing , is that you meet it with courage & with the best you have to give”—Eleanor Roosevelt.

Get well soon Chris.

Good luck to Chris in his recovery.

Amazing honest/emotional/passionate interview - my dad recently died from AML and the fear/anxiety being conveyed touched a nerve - also, isn't it great that a man/mp can freely talk about being gay and married without fear of a backlash

Get well soon RhonddaBryant and I cannot believe your 57

KayBurley interview was really beautiful about such a scary situation.
