Nottingham's public health director says the risk posed by coronavirus remains "really high" for people with reduced immunity as a new variant of the disease is tracked. Data is no longer routinely provided by the Government on the number of local coronavirus cases and hospitalisations, but people eligible for the vaccine are still being urged to come forward.
It comes as the UK Health Security Agency is currently tracking a new mutation of coronavirus known as the BA.2.86 variant, first detected in Denmark back in July. in the UK, 28 cases of the new variant were from a single outbreak in a Norfolk care home last month. But in its latest data on the new variant on September 18, the Government said no cases of the new variant had been found in the East Midlands.
"The reality for people who have got reduced immunity is the risk of covid remains really high. [For] that list of people that are eligible for covid vaccination, [it is] incredibly important that you remember to get your vaccine."
