Australian fast food giants are loading their kids meals with an 'unacceptable' extra dose of salt compared with the same meals at their overseas stores, a new report has found.

The George Institute's public health nutritionist Clare Farrand was the lead author of the report and said it was clear more regulation was needed in Australia.

"It is unacceptable that some children's meals in Australia are significantly saltier than similar meals purchased in the UK," Ms Farrand said. "The fact that some companies produce the same foods with a lot less salt in the UK demonstrates that they can, and should for all countries. "We know that some companies are doing better than others — all of the Subway kids' meals meet the UK targets — but clearly more needs to be done to reduce the salt content across the board."Establishing salt targets for children's meals.Increasing consumer awareness campaigns to inform about the health benefits of reducing salt intake specifically for children.Making the healthier option the default option.

I am guessing the humble chicken nugget is devoid of chicken. Salt and flavoured offal Mmm

What adults eat is their business but any deliberate act that undermines the nutritional intake of children is a form of physical abuse and should be handled by the law as such. Over & underfeeding, as well as grossly imbalanced diets, are all harmful and can do permanent damage.

has science gone too far?

What does this have to do with gender bias ? Every other story is.

If we want nuggets I make them at home then I know exactly what is in them.

Poison .... not really food.

Less salt in the Uk as well
