The paediatric nurse at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, flew to Mexico to have a stem cell transplant.

A nurse crowdfunded £40,000 to treat her Multiple Sclerosis in Mexico after she was declined treatment on the NHS.

Clare set up a GoFundMe page to help raise the money she needed for her treatment after learning it could stop the disease progressing. Clare was denied NHS stem cell treatment for her MS on the NHS so has travelled to Mexico for the treatment An eye test revealed there was nothing wrong with her eyes, and she was referred for an MRI scan and lumbar puncture, after which she was diagnosed.She admits not known a lot about MS to begin with, as she continued with her move to Birmingham from her home in Ireland to become a nurse.

‘I worry that if it continues like this, I will have to give up my job, which I love. It’s really not much of a future.’ ‘But another relapse could leave me totally immobile. I was left with no other option but to take action myself.’Clare flew out to Mexico at the beginning of February and has now finished her first stage of chemotherapy.
