Scientists have confirmed that around a third of bowel cancers are linked with a common oral bacteria called F. nucleatum.A third of bowel cancers have been linked to the bacteria that is often implicated in tooth decayIn a previous study, Dr Han discovered that the bacteria made a molecule called FadA adhesin, which stimulated the growth of cancerous cells.
They then found that by disabling that protein, they also prevented the F. nucleatum bacteria from binding to cancer cells - slowing their growth.
