A ceremonial lease signing on Wednesday marked another step in the creation of a VNA Health Care facility at Bloomhaven, the development at the site of the former Copley Hospital on the East Side of Aurora.

The development includes an independent living community for people with intellectual, cognitive and developmental disabilities, senior citizen residences, the East Aurora School District administrative headquarters, a five-acre park and playground and a soon-to-be VNA Health clinic.VNA Health Care is the Chicago suburbs largest community health care provider serving low-income and disadvantaged communities.

“We started looking at this space a year ago and we have decided to lease space there. We have signed it and we are in the process of doing the architectural drawings and the building itself with be constructed and we anticipate occupancy by late summer 2024,” Windel said. “We focus on areas where there are vulnerable populations who need access to health care. We were founded in 1918 in Aurora and we have two large clinics here already and serve 30,000 residents of Aurora today,” she said. “This new clinic will allow us to serve even more people.”

Aurora Chief Communications and Equity Officer Clayton Muhammad said the VNA project at Bloomhaven is an important one.
