A group of experts is sounding the alarm about a proposal from the New Brunswick government that could result in forced treatment for drug users.

The experts, from fields such as health, criminology and law, say they oppose and condemn a proposed bill they say would infringe on people’s liberties by involuntarily arresting and forcibly confining those who use drugs. In an open letter to the government, the experts say the plan is unsupported by scientific evidence and represents an unjustifiable infringement of Charter rights.
