Elaine Morrison and other family and friends of Scott Turner recently climbed Criffel in his memory and to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease Association

The devastated sister of a Dumfries man who died just months after being diagnosed with a life-ending disease is determined to keep his memory alive.Elaine, 51, said: “Scott died just six months after he was diagnosed and life just isn’t the same without him.

Former soldier Scott joined the King’s Own Scottish Borderers at 17 where he served with the 1st BN 1987-93 in Charlie Company and the pipe band. “He was eventually referred to hospital and after he was diagnosed with MND he was put on a waiting list for medical trials.“Scott accepted what was happening to him and got on with things. Not once did I hear him complain.MND is a progressive, life-shortening illness and there is no cure. Messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste, which can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.
