Report sounds alarm on inappropriate tests ordered for Canadian patients

Excellent analysis and report! The best way to counter this problem is to educate patients. Not only are there unnecessary lab tests, there are lots of unnecessary surgeries as well. Both the health care system and the patients have to bear the consequences.

14-20 tests a year? I am at the top end of middle age and I don’t get near that amount of tests, just the ones that are appropriate for my age.

Translation: Our healthcare system can not sustain doctors being thorough. Screening and ruling out disease is bad, waiting for obvious terminal signs is good. Keep importing people who don't pay their share into the system and squeeze us out of anything resembling quality care.

What about doctors not testing at all. I’ve had 3 different doctors pole my back with a finger and tell me “ohh it’s just a muscle strain” 2 years later and it’s still in pain....

Patients demanding inappropriate tests are not useful either. Perhaps face time and real talk between patient and doctor should be valued.
