The family of a construction worker who died on the site of Everton FC's new stadium have paid tribute to a "beloved son, uncle and friend".
He was injured on Monday and taken to Aintree hospital but could not be saved. A joint investigation by Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive is now on going and a post-mortem examination is due to take place this week.In a tribute released through the police, Michael's family said: "The family would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support. It is with our greatest sadness that our beloved son, brother uncle and friend Michael has sadly passed away.
Everton FC released a statement saying everyone at the club was "heartbroken" and sent condolences to his family, friends and colleagues, the Liverpool Echo reports. It said: "Everyone at Everton Football Club is heartbroken by the news a male worker has died following an incident at the Everton Stadium site at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Yesterday, a spokesperson for construction firm Laing O'Rourke said: "We can confirm that earlier today a member of our team, who was carrying out work for one of our sub-contractors, was seriously injured in an incident. He was taken to hospital via ambulance, where he sadly died.
