Food stamps: August SNAP payments worth up to $1,691 to be sent to Wisconsin residents in one day

The food stamps program issues payments every month from the 2nd through the 15th, depending on the eighth digit of a person's Social Security number. The FoodShare program will stop sending payments for August on Tuesday.Most recipients enrolled in the FoodShare program have already had their benefits loaded onto their Wisconsin QUEST cards, the state's electronic benefits card. Those with an eighth digit of 9 can expect their payments to be reloaded on Tuesday.

The maximum payment for a household of one is $281 and $740 for a household of three. The maximum amount listed is $1,691 for a household of eight, with an additional $211 included for each member over eight. The average payment per household member per month is $168. Around 12% of Wisconsin's population, or 708,200 people, receive payments from the FoodShare program.Payments from the FoodShare program may be used to purchase bread, cereal, fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, dairy,"snack foods," nonalcoholic beverages, and seeds and plants to grow food from eligible stores.

Benefits from the state's food stamps program may not be used for alcohol, hot foods, tobacco, medicine, vitamins, live animals,"food to be eaten in the store," or other nonfood items.
