The maximum amount listed is $1,691 for a household of eight, with an additional $211 included for each member over eight. The average payment per household member per month is $168. Around 12% of Wisconsin's population, or 708,200 people, receive payments from the FoodShare program.Payments from the FoodShare program may be used to purchase bread, cereal, fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, dairy,"snack foods," nonalcoholic beverages, and seeds and plants to grow food from eligible stores.
Benefits from the state's food stamps program may not be used for alcohol, hot foods, tobacco, medicine, vitamins, live animals,"food to be eaten in the store," or other nonfood items.
