Red wine is one of the most popular drinks around the world. It is made by fermenting the juice of dark-skinned grapes.Several studies have found that moderate intake of red wine can do wonders for the heart. "Women with regular red wine consumption were found to have the lowest risk of heart disease, heart arrhythmias, high blood pressure, and diabetes, according to a recent study [Needless to say I liked this study A LOT!]," wrote dietitian Monique Piderit on Instagram. She went on to explain the science behind the studies.

"This is likely because red wine is rich in polyphenols called resveratrol which have been found to have heart-protective properties," said the dietitian."Of course, we can’t ignore the negative impact that excess alcohol can have on our health," she wrote. Some of the problems that can be caused by excessive intake of wine include"memory problems, a weaker immune system, and mental health disorders like anxiety and depression. So be sure to keep your intake in check as part of your total daily energy intake," wrote Monique.
