The researchers analyzed more than 21,000 breast cancers in women in their 40s. Women between the ages of 40 and 49 who could self-refer for breast cancer screening programs and receive annual mammograms had lower breast cancer mortality rates than those who did not, according to the peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology on Friday.
