Calgary medical clinic halts plan for membership fees, says Alberta government | CBC News

Last month, Marda Loop Medical Clinic informed its clients it would be introducing a "membership-based medical service," running $4,800 a year for a two-parent family membership. Following provincial and federal interventions, it has halted those plans.

"The [Marda Loop Medical] clinic indicated they will not be proceeding with charging fees on Aug. 1," Alberta Health spokesman Scott Johnston said in a statement.Converting doctor's offices to premium clinics could spawn a new health-care crisis A woman at the receptionist desk said she couldn't comment and that Dr. Sally Talbot-Jones, the clinic's owner and physician, would not be available for an interview.
