Hawaii residents receiving payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will begin collecting a maximum payment of $3,230 on Wednesday.

Maximum allotments increased for all 50 states and Washington, D.C., Guam, and the Virgin Islands in August 2022 due to cost-of-living adjustments. In Hawaii, the maximum payments increased substantially from 2020.SNAP payments arrive in Hawaii on Thursday and continue for two days until Saturday. A household's specific payment arrival date will depend on the Social Security number, case number, account number, or last name.

In the Aloha State, a household of one can receive a maximum payment of $538. A household of four can receive as much as $1,794, and a household of eight can receive up to $3,230. For each additional household member, the program includes a maximum of $404.Around 169,000 people receive SNAP benefits in Hawaii. The average payment per household member per month is $175.

Eligible SNAP households will receive their payments via a prepaid electronic benefit transfer card. The EBT card works similarly to a debit card and can be used at participating locations, such as farmer's markets, grocery stores, and online retailers.
