Canada’s premiers must set ambitious targets to improve and accelerate Canadians’ access to health care amid a second consecutive summer of rolling emergency room closures, the Canadian Medical Association says.

The organization, which represents physicians across Canada, says the situation is dire in many hospitals and health centres across Canada due to health-care staffing shortages across the country. That’s why the CMA has released a list of detailed targets for improvements that it wants the premiers to agree to tackle when they gather in Winnipeg next week for their annual summer Council of the Federation meetings.
