A man allegedly armed with a knife inside a Barrio Logan taco shop was arrested early Tuesday after a short standoff with San Diego police.
San Diego police received a report around 8:30 a.m. that a man was threatening people with a knife in the Logan Heights Family Health Center on National Avenue. When officers arrived, the man walked out into the street waving the knife around, police Lt. Nicholas Dedonato told OnScene TV. The man then started running toward the TJ Birreria Taco Shop, throwing chairs and a fire extinguisher at officers, Dedonato said. The man ran inside the taco shop still brandishing a knife, then went into the kitchen and threatened staff and threw food around, the lieutenant said. He allegedly climbed on some kitchen equipment as restaurant patrons were evacuated.
After a short standoff, officers were able to talk the man out of the restaurant and took him into custody. No one was reported injured.
