This was based on the agency's latest bio-surveillance report based on genome sequencing results from May 29 to June 12.
"The variant was initially flagged for its increasing global prevalence and has been detected in 35 countries or jurisdictions across six continents, according to sequence submissions in GISAID ," said DOH. However, DOH noted that the available evidence for omicron FE.1 is not different in terms of severity and clinical manifestations as compared to the original omicron variant.
FE.1 is an omicron XBB sub-lineage that is being monitored by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control since June 1. Meanwhile, the health department reported 206 cases of BA.2.3.20, 43 of XBC, four BA.5, and six BA.2.75.
