A new report on healthcare service delivery has raised concerns about the limited access to care and poor treatment marginalised groups receive from staff at public facilities in Mpumalanga. | YoliswaSobuwa

This was revealed in the third edition of the Ritshidze State of Healthcare for key populations report in Mpumalanga, which outlined the major challenges people face in accessing healthcare at public health facilities in the province. is a community-led clinic monitoring project which aims to improve the quality of healthcare services in the public sector.

Data was collected at 43 public health facilities across Mpumalanga, through observations and interviews with healthcare users and providers.According to the report, the levels of poor treatment, and even discrimination and hostility, have discouraged people in the key population group from getting and seeking anti-retroviral treatment and other health services.

It was also revealed some people had been denied services altogether, with up to 26% of various key population groups reporting they were denied access to healthcare.At those sites where lubricants were available, it was found they were put in waiting rooms and near reception areas, discouraging people from taking them in full view of other people.HIV patients abused and humiliated

"Seventy-nine percent of facilities reported needing more space, worsening from 71% last year, with waiting for space, filing space, and rooms for medical care given as the most common things facilities needed extra space for.
