The Department of Health (DOH) has issued an advisory and list of reminders on how to stay safe from the possible hazardous activities of Mayon Volcano. ManilaBulletin READ:

"A resident from Malabog Daraga, Albay witnessed thick ash volcanic activity from the crater of Mayon Volcano at around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 8."

To protect oneself from ash fall, the DOH said that residents living in the vicinity of the volcano shall refrain from unnecessarily going outside their houses.It is also important to be informed of the road and traffic status in their area and prepare a "Go Bag" containing food, water, a first aid kit, and other important items.Cleaning up ashes that accumulate on roofs and drains should also be done after and not during the ash fall.

The health department also issued the following reminders to keep food and drinks clean and safe for consumption during and after an ash fall:- Wash fruits and vegetables with running waterMeanwhile, the following guidelines must be followed to protect the eyes against ash irritation:- Refrain from using contact lenses and use eyeglasses in the meantime instead- Immediately consult a doctor if an eyesight problem...

To avoid contracting respiratory distress, DOH advised the public to hang moist curtains on windows, use medical or surgical masks, dusk masks, or moist towels as nose and mouth protection, make sure to have a sufficient supply of medicines for asthma and allergies, and seek immediate consultation if experiencing difficulty breathing.
