Tributes are pouring in for the DA’s Marlene van Staden who lost her long battle with cancer on Thursday morning. She was 43.

Midvaal mayor Peter Teixeira took to social media to pay his condolences: “It is with great sadness to learn about the untimely passing of our beloved friend and colleague, mayor Marlene Van Staden of the Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality." He extended his condolonces to Van Staden's family, friends, and the entire community of Modimolle-Mookgophong.Her friend and colleague, DA provincial leader Jacques Smalle, said the party had lost a"mother of the house".
