Through digital tools such as telehealth and apps, startups seek to spot and better manage maternal health conditions before they cause complications

Startups are using virtual services to fill gaps in maternal care and prevent pregnancy complications as concerns rise about growing numbers of maternal deaths in the U.S.

Venture-backed companies including Pomelo Care, Maven Clinic and Babyscripts aim to augment patients’ in-person care. The number of women who died during or shortly after pregnancy in the U.S. rose 40% to 1,205 in 2021 from the prior year, the National Center for Health Statistics said in March.
