The new law will allow advance requests for MAID for people with a serious and incurable disease.

On Wednesday, just after the adoption, the minister reiterated that she wanted to proceed “quickly, but correctly.”

Liberal MP Jennifer Maccarone said it is “an important piece of legislation, which respects the dignity and autonomy of people facing intolerable suffering, which expands access to end-of-life care options, including the long-awaited advance requests.” However, this practice will be supervised. The new law now states that “no one may promote or advertise any good or service provided in the course of a commercial activity by associating it directly or indirectly with medical assistance in dying.”
