BOSSES at a popular Glasgow city centre bar have been ordered to close with immediate effect after a swoop by council’sAn inspection by environmental health at the 13th Note in King Street at lunchtime today found mouse droppings throughout the venue and within the area wheremade an unannounced visit at noon and carried out various checks in and around the venue. At 1.20pm they issued paperwork instructing owner Jacqueline Fennessy to cease operating as a result of what they had discovered.
The action comes after a video was posted online allegedly showing staff filming a mouse running through the 13th Note. Staff claim that owners told them just a week ago that they had an independent inspection carried out that found no issues. It was the latest in a long line of problems at the bar that saw staff lodge a collective grievance and a protest staged by Unite Hospitality members where bar and hotel workers waved placards inside and outside the venue in support of their colleagues.Bryan Simpson, of Unite Hospitality, said: “A remedial action notice compelling immediate closure is one of the most serious warnings that the council’s Environmental Health Department can issue.
“What we need urgently from the owner now are two things; immediate action to resolve all hygiene and health and safety issues at the premises and reassurances that all workers will be paid during this closure.”
