Recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program can use their benefits to buy a number of items at grocery stores.

Using SNAP benefits, recipients can visit grocery stores and purchase items such as fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy products, bread, cereals, seeds, and plants used to produce food. Other foods, such as snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, can also be purchased using SNAP benefits, according to the Department of Human Services.

SNAP beneficiaries can use their benefits at several grocery outlets, including Amazon, Aldi, and Giant. Several Safeway outlets also accept SNAP benefits, though the outlets that accept benefits will vary by location. The amount of money that SNAP recipients receive every month will vary depending on how many people are in their household, with a household of one getting $281 while a household of eight will receive $1,691. These SNAP benefits are given to recipients within the first 10 days of the month. The debt ceiling deal that President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy reached over the weekend would result in several modifications to SNAP eligibility.

Additionally, increasing the age for work requirements will likely reduce the number of food stamp recipients. Recipients of food stamps receive an estimated $169 in monthly benefits on average, according to the Department of Agriculture.
