Generative AI startup Runway recently signed a huge cloud computing contract with Google

in cloud credits over two years, as well as technical guidance, mentorship, sales support, and connections with experts. The deal Google has with Runway would provide the startup with significantly more credits than the standard tiers for the program.

Insider asked Google several times whether it is investing in Runway. The search giant has declined to comment. In recent years, there's been several deals in which big cloud companies take stakes in AI startups and offer cloud credits as part of the transaction. Microsoft's $1 billion investment in OpenAI in 2019 was split between cash and credits for Microsoft's Azure cloud service.
