And adult mental-wellness treatment would receive a $125-million infusion to build five mental-health centres providing long- and short-term recovery programs. “We recognize the growing concern surrounding mental health and firmly believe early intervention, diagnosis and treatment are crucial for improving outcomes and building a comprehensive and recovery-oriented system of care,” said Calgary-Currie UCP candidate Nicholas Milliken.

Mental-health challenges that have been increasing in recent years can severely impair learning among children and youth, he said. “Having more resources to help address these issues means our kids are more likely to experience improved focus, concentration and overall cognitive functioning leading to better academic performance,” said Milliken.
