My father mentioned a two-month long sore throat with hoarseness to his GP in Dec 2017. Referred to a consultant for checks who gave him all clear in Jan '18 with 'nothing serious amiss'. 5 months later, June, diagnosed with stage 4 laryngeal cancer. Died in Nov '18.
GPs are overwhelmed with hypochondriacs stirred up by BBC and Daily Mail scare stories. Just get a grip and take a day off from saying to anxious people, 'You're probably dying of cancer.'
So how long is “persistant”?

This headline is Daily Mail level of irresponsible hypochondriac fearmongering.
That also means that the GP or doctor (I am in Canada)listens to the patient when they are reporting various symptoms and not ignoring them

I assumed it. My father always had a sore throat. He had blood cancer, found out later. Always treated a sore throat
