Think it depends on the person. My father is in the midst of his 'battle' and he is thriving with an attitude that it's a 'fight' he has to win.

True. After reading Susan Sontag’s “Illness as Metaphor” I got a greater appreciation for how language around Illness shapes our reaction to it. Past time to change how we talk about it. ‘A cancer’ is a good start. And end the fight metaphor.
