The Young Carer Grant is for Scots aged 16, 17 or 18 who provide up to 16 hours of care each week.

Social Security Scotland has confirmed that Young Carer Grant is now worth £359.65 each year for 16, 17 or 18-year-olds who spend an average of 16 hours per week caring for someone with a health condition who receives a disability benefit. The devolved benefit is paid annually and is unique to young people in Scotland.

The Scottish Government introduced the Young Carer Grant in October 2019 to help young people with caring responsibilities. The payment can be claimed by youngsters in school, in further education, employed or unemployed once a year as long as long as they remain eligible. Zoe Hepburn, 19, has cared for her mum who has Multiple Sclerosis since she was seven. She has received three Young Carer Grants since the payments were introduced and said the money has made a significant difference to her life.
