The mother of an infant found dead in a shopping bag at a Victoria strip mall has been found and is receiving medical care and support, Victoria police said Friday.

The mother of a newborn baby found dead at a Saanich strip mall on Wednesday night has been located and is receiving medical care and support, Victoria police said Friday.

A passerby discovered the baby in a shopping bag on the sidewalk outside a Subway restaurant in the Blanshard Centre shopping plaza, in the 700-block of Bay Street, around 10 p.m. Wednesday.The circumstances are still under investigation by Victoria Police’s Major Crimes Unit and no further details were released.
