😮

This is sad. I support what she did. If is parent won't get her kid help. Thank God someone else did and shame on that 'guardian' for not being grateful. It's not like she gave the kid her own meds. They were prescribed by a dr, for the child, based on his symptoms.

I agree that she tried to do the right thing, but as superintendent she should know there are resources and agencies that could help which could have been the better path than forging names etc

I hate to be a downer because I commend her for her selflessness BUT, we can't let people break the law even for good. What next? We applaud someone who robs a convenient store to feed the homeless? Let's fix why she had to help this kid rather than applaud lawlessness!

How can that be fraud... She went out of her way to show a little humanity and the best she gets is, scoldings....

She’s kinda cute

Give us the entire story, first.

The state of our national health care system! We need universal payer like Medicare for all!

Read the article people. It has nothing to do with healthcare access or universal healthcare. The boy is in the custody of a neglectful guardian who refuses to care for him. This is the fault of people looking the other way instead of reporting the neglect to the authorities.

More to story.....

Finally! Fuck the system , not students ! Bravo to this beautiful woman!

Under the laws of some other state she would have been prosecuted for not calling child protective services because this child was clearly being neglected over a long period of time. She could have forced his obviously useless guardian to get him medical treatment.

Why didn’t she just pay?

Why not use the school’s insurance program? Every year I had to prove my child had health insurance or was offered low cost coverage.

🤯

Yes, this is fraud, stealing if you will, and more evidence that outr health care system is corrupted and broken. Fine her $1. and community service working to help Medicare for All become law.

Gotta praise everyone involved in using common sense that getting the boy medical treatment was the most important thing- except for the boy’s idiot guardian who turned in someone who did the right thing by helping him

That's among the reasons I believe policy us that art designed to create a greedy people vulnerable to manipulation of the wickeds' intend..the woman is a hero...

If she was taking care of that child in the only way possible good for her.

Best part of the article “Smitherman's attorney, Bryan Williams, said she is keeping her job and has entered in a diversion program that will dismiss her charges if she doesn't get arrested in a year.”

jurynullification

She went out of her way to help. She shouldn't be punished for that.

System needs to know the difference between fraud and a selfless act. There are always discretionary powers to forgive such acts. Shame on modern day governance which does not laud humanness and instead punishes.

So the board is supporting fraud. So committing fraud is ok now?

Why not take him to a clinic or an in and out facility?

She broke the law in a big way. She should be fired at a minimum. I hope she faces a fair non partisan Judge as Judges are not supposed to be political but we know they are.

So indicative of our broken healthcare system.

And this will be why 'jury nullification' will be one of the most popular searched terms on the Internet for the next week.

Good lady. may God protect her

Unfortunately she's wrong by law...but how incredibly sad that any American does not have proper health insurance...but we need a wall...

Take her to jail! Lock her up! Intact she has committed a treasonable act! God who are those in charge of the system? You have just extinguished a super hero without a cape! Kudos to the school board!

She cares and is trying to help the kid , I would too

These people on here talking about she was wrong need to stop.

Ok now they should look into the guardian who called the police. Obviously this person not doing a great job.

We have a fucked up system, now if that child had died what would have been the story.

Amazing. We're reminded of the confounding morality of LesMiserables. Often, in the worst of times, the best of us are driven to solutions which, though crimes, serve higher ethics.

Good, trying to cheat and use something that doesn’t belong to you is a crime

Arrested for fraud? America has everything backwards. Seriously... Catch up with the rest of the world. This is embarrassing.

Are we slaves to some invisible force that controls are sensibilities. Or are we still human beings with compassion...

Is there a legal support fund going for her? While don't support illegality, bravo for her kindness & humanity.

She should be praised not punished. Crazy.

Does she need money for her legal fees?

Maybe single payer universal healthcare would be easier.?

Wow reading some of these comments just blew me away. If it was your child and for whatever reason you couldn’t get them medical attention you would call the authorities on someone trying to help? Shame on you as a parent. judgeyourself

What a monster!

She is not to be accused but government!

Why didn't she inform the child's guardian? They didn't seem to know anything about the matter.

I’ve never heard of anyone dying of strep throat in the first four hours of illness... but if the kid was allergic to amoxcillan that could have killed him... nobody has the right to give medicine to someone else's kid without knowing their complete medical history. C'mon.

Arrest members of the GOP until we have all the same healthcare they have!!

Good for her and good for the board!,

yeah, she was trying to help. leave her alone

I read the article.. I have questions for the boy's guardian.....

Her heart was in the right place. The system is broken.

If you had universal health care like most modern western societies this would not need to have happened.

Our SUP like to drink and drive and get DUI’s barstool1515

Why didn’t the guardian take the child to a clinic before all of this happened?

This is America.

May The Lord Jesus bless this teacher this amazing person who helped a sick child and she gets arrested that just shows you that doing the right thing is considered doing the wrong thing from the rich

This is a waste of police time. She should be arrested after all murderers and rapists have been prosecuted.

This woman wanted to help because our healthcare system is so broken.

Teacher accused of helping student. The monster.

How could this be Fraud ? She only wanted to have the student receive treatment . Will be a disgrace if she should go to jail for this

This would never happen here in Australia.

Give her a medal!

This is fraud. He would have gotten treatment if she’d told the truth. Where are the parents?

What the f***

If we can't fix this country can we at least burn it and start a new one?

This... in the United States. Smdh 🤦🏽‍♀️ Are we great again yet?

She deserves an accolade...

That's kind of her. But the law is the law, if we all could get what we want, wouldn't we breaking the law then? My point is we have to respect the law.

That’s a crime I can get behind

Freakin' hero. SinglePayer Now

This is the difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. In no way did she break the spirit of the law by providing help for that young man. I stand by her too!

jeffredman5 Hey VP this is why we need Medicare-4-All, not a stupid Wall!

Just claim hes an illegal. They get everything free.

The fact she had to resort to this is the crime.

How about a suspended sentence or pardon from the governor?

LoniLove Damned if you do, damned if you don't. This shero was trying to help this poor boy and she's gonna be punished for that? Sick world we live in.

She needs fund rising from community to hire Michael Jackson lawyers.

I was told it takes a village?

LoniLove This sounds like something straight off of lifetime

I can’t believe this is the United Stars

She was trying to save the child’s life. 😳

I don't think she should be charged that harshly. But she gave a kid meds without the parents permission. What if he were allergic to them? I'm allergic to the same meds he was prescribed. At least she should've talked to parents first. My prob isn't lying, it's risking him.

She actually committed insurance fraud though. Could have done things different....I can't rob banks to send to illegal aliens for financial support, no matter the 'morality' of it.

Stand together we must be Americans or we will fall 💪✊✊✊✊✊✊✊🏼✊stand together united we stand divide we fall

Universal healthcare would solve all of this but nah we can't cause America is somehow different than every where else where it works successfully. This situation is clearly a better alternative

Sorry the law is the law if she was a black woman y'all wouldn't be so all up in arms.

This is how the system breaks good people.

If only there were a lesson about healthcare access that we could glean from the rest of the developed world . . .

I understand her compassion. As an educator, I have it too. The health care crisis is real. She might have been better paying for this child’s care out of pocket being that it was strep. I’m glad she didn’t lose her job. There are many more stupid things administrators can do.

My former congressman was previously married to a woman who died of strep. She wasn’t treated because he was a Christian Scientist, but my point is this—people die from strep throat. Clearly she knew that. Heroic behavior.

Students parents are probably on Obamacare. Desperate measures!

HERO. PURE AND SIMPLE

Having human feeling led her to this act, she should be commended for her action rather than persecution. Come to Africa and learn what it entails to be...

LoniLove Hero
