However, the majority of Anthropic cofounder and president Daniela Amodei's career has been spent trying to prove the opposite: that trust and safety is a feature, not a bug. Of course, Amodei's Anthropic is a completely different animal than Musk's Twitter, but the fields of artificial intelligence and social media can conjure up similar questions around who's allowed to police technology and designate which values are deemed"right" and"wrong."
Anthropic, a rival AI lab to OpenAI, has benefitted from this hype. Already, the company has raised over $1 billion in funding, with its latest $300 million round from Spark Capital — its second raise in 2023 alone, according to PitchBook — landing it a $4.1 billion valuation,Now, Amodei, alongside her Anthropic colleagues, is working to ensure that this new era of AI has trust and safety at its core, rather than as an afterthought.
