Robert Watt, the man at the centre of controversy over the abandoned appointment of Dr Tony Holohan to a role at Trinity College Dublin, is an unusually combative civil servant.

The public got to see that for themselves last week when he clashed with several TDs on the Oireachtas Finance Committee about a report that criticised his handling of the appointment process.
