Yet, over 95% of the top news orgs either did pay for them or were granted them, so this panned out to be false reporting. That or they (quickly) changed their mind.

Sounds like a disaster for Elon. All he really did was allow other social media companies to use a similar model that they don’t rely on for revenue like Twitter, but keep the integrity of the check mark. Not to mention the churn rate bc regular users won’t pay forever.
I view TwitterBlue as my contribution to support Elon’s takeover and makeover of Twitter. I can’t expect everything for free. Twitter is my de facto news and information source.
I don't want the 'expertise' of those who refuse to pay for the check mark. In my experience, their expertise is a bunch of unscientific opinions and government propaganda.
