'Improved air quality supported by the LEZ is vital for better health and helps to promote Glasgow’s wellbeing' | MarthaWardrop ✍️

We have been aware for many years that pregnant women, children and those with heart and lung conditions are at a disproportionately high risk from air pollution. Air pollution can trigger asthma and childhood cancer. Children who have been exposed to high levels of air pollution may be at increased risk of developing chronic health conditions such as coronary heart disease, diabetes and strokes.

On December 31, 2018, Glasgow’s LEZ, which only impacted buses for the first four years, came into force. Increased funding has been sought from the Scottish Government to ensure the viability of the taxi sector within Glasgow. Due to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly on the taxi trade, the implementation date has already been revised to June 1, 2023.

MarthaWardrop Perhaps LEZ is a money making scam. Investigate it and corruption shall most likely be seen…

MarthaWardrop This climate garbage is one big fraud 1960's - coming ice age 1970's - acid rain 1980's - ozone layer 1990's - global warming 2000's - climate change And each time we were told the world would come to an end unless we put trillions into the pockets of the international bankers

MarthaWardrop I don’t suppose the rubbish lying around helps the air quality much!

MarthaWardrop I don't think the ordinary punter realty unstands what this will in tail. No more picking up kids /wives / husbands etc in the middle of winter on a night out. What happens when the trains finish and it's only a night bus left. Glasgow council be prepared for the backlash !!

jonmolyneuxSGP MarthaWardrop While everyone is in favour of cleaner air, the SNP/Greens are guilty of misleading the public. Glasgow is now well within legal limits for all measured air pollutants. Buses were the main cause of breaches. Grants of ~50% to electrify the private bus fleet has worked.

MarthaWardrop Air quality? City centre is rife with junkies…. Maybe get rid of that pollution and/or buses and not prevent taxi drivers from earning a crust

MarthaWardrop You're sentencing the elderly, disabled & infirm, effectively, to house arrest, and without the taxi trade, you are making it difficult, if not impossible, e.g., for them to attend medical appointments on time, if at all. Your zealotry is discrimination by another name. shameful

MarthaWardrop The retrofit programme is so far behind schedule due to the unavailability of parts, and other more sensitive reasons, and now more drivers will be forced off the road. You're harming the night-time economy, and putting at risk the safety of women and anyone in town on their own.

MarthaWardrop In spite of your Weasel words, you're crippling the taxi trade, putting an already shrinking workforce in peril, and also refusing to deal with the astronomical backlog of applications to study 'The Knowledge' and Licence applications for those who have completed the course.

MarthaWardrop I'm sorry, Martha, but this is being forced on Glasgow on a false prospectus. You're using data that was collected prior to the introduction of new buses by First, McGill's and Stagecoach, as well as those taxis and private cars, including EVs, which are already compliant.

glasgowgreens MarthaWardrop It's a great idea but it screws people like me who do shift work. I work on the railway so can't get public transport into work if I'm a 4am start and my car doesn't meet requirements to enter the LEZ.
