Elsewhere, the report details female students interested in becoming surgeons being told not to expect male colleagues to “pick up their slack” should they “go have kids and go down to part time.” Smith said he found many of the comments collected in the report “distressing,” and noted supports have been offered to people in the college community who may read it.
While he noted the college has been pursuing equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives for several years, including the development of a, Smith said “humility has to be the most important thing here” when it came to listing off the college’s achievements on anti-discrimination work.
