The 86-year-old pope went to the hospital Wednesday for some scheduled check-ups that revealed a respiratory infection that will require a few days of hospital medical treatment.

LOS ANGELES — Archbishop José H. Gomez asked the faithful to join him in prayer for Pope Francis as he is“Let’s pray for our Holy Father Pope Francis as he undergoes his medical treatments at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital,” Gomez said in a statement delivered through Twitter. “We entrust him to the tender care of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and we ask that she keep him close in her love.”
