This is a good diet for diabetes. Eat it and for sure you get it

Only 4% of the planet surface is usable for annual crop production, 14% is usable for grazing. I would say that the solar power produced red meat from grazing ruminants needs to play a much bigger role in feeding us all, then the annual cropping system based on cheap fossil fuel.

I don't think there has been much thought, if any, given to the importance of ruminant livestock's place in the health of the grasslands ecosystem. There is no other agricultural system that will sequester more soil carbon, then a rotational grazed perennial forage crop.

TheLancet Not great if you have a nut allergy

When you find out that a Norwegian billionaire called Gunhild Sturdalen & her EAT corporation funded this study you kind of wonder about the hypocrisy of it all....

BellaLack you might want to read this too....

This isn't new but has been practised by native peoples of the Americas for hundreds of years. High meat consumption was introduced with industrial revolution like processed foods, anyhow. I myself can't be vegan, so have been using this method for over 6 years; for health too.

TheLancet I'll stick to my own portion size thank you will most certainly not have my 'daily allowance' dictated to me

OlliSmith123 told u lad

What utter crap.

The BBC is repeating vegan propaganda which is not supported by scientific research. The author's of this report are funded by large food companies who stand to make increased profits from our health. Disgraceful of the BBC not to show the conflict of interests from the authors

Perhaps we could eat dictatorial vegans instead? Seems like a win-win for the planet.

a tax on packaging plastic and hot air?

Not a cat in hells change of that utter bollocks

People will always find and excuse and blame other people, companies, governments etc. They're just too lazy and selfish to make the change. It's up to ALL OF US to make changes in our lives if we want to stop climate change and improve health.

This report has been spun. The most important piece is at the end. Waste. You can do something about this without changing your diet. Buy less. Use what you have. Diets mean nothing if people chuck half of it away.

It is time for everyone to act to reduce global warming and be healthier by making better food choices

Love this! It is time for everyone to act to reduce global warming and be healthier by making better food choices

We should and will be eating insects

What happens when all the land is cleared to grow vegetables?

This is a catastrophic and ridiculous report, from people with industry-funded and adventist-religious vegan agendas. Healthy diets require copius amounts of meat and eliminating carbs. It's also sustainable as opposed to wheat and corn agriculture. yes2meat

Oh dear, the fvcking weirds telling us what to do again. Snore

TheLancet 31g added sugar = approximately 8 teaspoons.

If u cut food intake down then cut working hours too! I don't think a builder on that diet, working 8 hours a day will actually build u a decent house. 😉

I’m really impressed by the interesting food available, I’ve been eating grass and nuts (all organic of course) for weeks but find emissions have increased considerably, no mention of contraception to reduce population then? That would be too sensible wouldn’t it.

I adhere to this, I've taken 2 of my fat friends & shred them up too. The 3rd friend is still a working progress. The reasons I do it to save the planet, aesthetics, & not to be a burden on social healthcare unlike doughnut eating gluttons This ain't no diet it's a ifestyle

Eat what you like - the planet doesn't need saving. It was fine before humans arrived, it'll be fine when we've gone. We need to get over ourselves - we're really not that important.

One and a bit eggs a week....what do you do with the other bit?🤔😂🥚🐓

I just don't want to eat my way to eternal life.

Population of sub Saharan Africa doubles every 20 years or so... Not a word...

I bought a 22 pack of Golden Wonder Crisps yesterday. Tried the 4 flavours. Lovely, a pensioners delight at 75yrs.

All these go vegan articles you keep putting up is just making me eat more meat. Especially since its now fashionable.

I've been a veggie 25 years....but seriously the BBC is pissing me off so much with this vegan stuff I'm tempted to go out for a big mac.

i try2kill black cat in age10 then i feel that can hurt blak cat all god diet made at home 4god profit4m god reward4all profit now only buy4m evil lion 3apple empire paper never forget lastm offer ppl2send free god diet peace4all home no1listen lastm say2all ppl grow diet in home

29g of chicken a day? 😂😂😂 Not a chance That is not even 2 chicken nuggets !!!

If it’s not fried chicken I’m out.

I'm getting sick of this crap, why place all responsibility on the people? Crackdown on the companies. They do more damage than us.

Bet these people never get laid.

Anyone who imagines that crop farming is better for the environment than livestock ranching has clearly never set foot on a farm

India and China both with populations in their billions are increasing their taste for meat. Yet to the left only if the UK turns vegan can the world be saved. Pathetic.

Feed the world?

So how would this work with athletes? Some of the eat far more than that to get themselves into shape for their particular sport.

Balanced diet, nothing extreme

'Planetary health diet' calls for drastic cut in meat consumption to protect Earth and save livesPlan to minimise climate change and rainforest destruction while preventing millions of premature deaths would require developed nations' meat eating to fall by 80 per cent Someone better tell the entire history of life on earth, where living things, have always eaten other living things..... Human diet is causing 'catastrophic' damage to the planetIf we all adopted a 'Planetary Diet' - halving our intake of meat and doubling our intake of vegetables - fewer people would die of diet-related diseases and starvation, UK scientists say. These are diseconomies of scale; thin the monkeys out a bit for best results, a 95% culling would be about right.
