In a news release, federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos boasted the agreement in principle will improve conditions for health workers and patients. “It will modernize our health-care system, improve access to family health services and mental health services, reduce surgical backlogs and support health workers,” Duclos said. “Better quality of care means helping Albertans and Canadians live longer, healthier lives.”
Speaking previously to media, Smith called the funding “significant” and said she intended to direct it towards health initiatives already underway, including decreasing wait times at emergency rooms, cutting ambulance response time and recruiting more frontline workers.
