Canine influenza, a transmissible respiratory disease seen in dogs, reportedly has been spreading across the U.S. including in Pa. Here’s what pet owners need to know.

Philly VoiceThe news outlet reported that a strong possible reason for the uptick in dog flu cases in Pa. may be because many dogs weren’t vaccinated against the virus. Dog flu is much more common in southern regions of the U.S., confirmed there weren’t many cases of the dog flu in Philly before this winter.. “So I think the biggest reason for the spike is no one up here has really been vaccinated for it, so it’s spreading like wildfire.

There is a vaccine for canine influenza, however, there are currently shortages as a result of the outbreak.🦠 If your pet is not vaccinated for canine influenza and has been boarded in the area please let us know and be extra vigilant for symptoms.🦠 Consider having your dog vaccinated for canine influenza. Please contact us for vaccine availability.

Symptoms of the dog flu include coughing, fever, runny nose and eyes, sluggish behavior and sneezing. Dogs may also experience changes in eating habits.
