Will Ontario’s plan ease way for foreign-trained MDs? The province says it will launch “practice-ready assessment,” to speed up licensing for international medical graduates. But some see it as only a first step.

OTTAWA—Twenty-six-year-old Mariam was a doctor in her native Syria. She treated dozens of patients every day for more than three years.

of Canada, according to Immigration Canada, but advocates estimate only one-third of them work in health care., the share of adults with a health-related education who are not working in the field is much higher for foreign-educated immigrants — at 47 per cent — than for Canadian-born individuals, at 28 per cent.

“This will allow us to add at least 50 new physicians by 2024,” said Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones in a statement early this month. “Fast-track licensing is a move we support, but it is a band-aid solution, and there are still obstacles,” he said.

Canada doesn't need doctors. It needs cashiers, literally!

realize this my whole life until i moved to toronto i had real drs that actually new me and cared if i lived or died. here in toronto we have no canadian drs anymore and drs here service their own before us. they also like making us suffer as worthless weak fat spoiled canadians

Unfortunately with current government policies, Canada is becoming the least attractive country in the world for professionals to move in 😞 Don’t be fooled with government data about the large number of people moving to Canada. Most of these people moving are unskilled labor.

The first step is public private Healthcare.

Still ignoring all real science and not rehiring the health professionals who chose to not have the experimental injections. Yet no 'journalist' in Canada can figure out the correlation between firing thousands of healthcare workers and healthcare suffering.

That's beyond ridiculous..what's the point of immigration then if Canada is not going to use their skills? Especially with such a shortage of doctors and nurses

This has been an issue since the 90s. I used to work with a doctor from the Philippines in a warehouse unloading trucks

It is so hard to practice in Canada for natives. It is herculean task for foreign trained medical professionals. Issue is our regulators and medical boards like OMA. They are road blockers.

Syria..this is a country with 2000 years I medicine 💊...that for how long they practice!! That not ok...

They would make great doctors for other newcomers, Canadians not so much

OMA is mafia. Why doesnt Canada increase the intake of medical students in our Universities.

We don't need voodoo-doctors from the islands getting Canadian credentials so they can boarder hop to the USA.

Why aren't we graduating more Doctors, from our Med schools, our Universities aren't meeting the demands of our society.

1968 if doctors from Checkslovakia cd be 'trained' in no time to practice as doctors, why is this issue still a problem today. We cd hv had all these 1000s of doctors help us with our sick all these years. How unsmart is authority? Very as is obvious.

What will people in their home countries do for Doctors if we take them all🤷🏼‍♂️
