Health minister Maria Caulfield and several newspapers have said that junior doctors want a 26% pay rise. In fact their union’s demands are higher, and amount to a rise of about 35%.

The British Medical Association is asking for a 26% pay rise for junior doctors. This is not correct. The BMA claims that junior doctors’ pay has fallen 26% since 2008/9, and asked the government to restore it to this level. This would amount to a rise of about 35%.

My understanding from the BMA is that their current demands, in terms of why they’re striking, is a demand of 26% pay increase.[Junior doctors] now plan a 72-hour walkout next month in their fight for a 26% pay rise.

but as so many say they will go overseas, how is that an incentive to get the present govt. to pay them a lot more

Well it isn't a 26% pay RISE because that's what they've LOST since 2010 So assuming they get 35%, it's actually a 1% CUT because 9% is LESS than inflation

JohnRentoul Can't be arsed with these self-identifying 'fact checkers'. 'New wind and solar power are now nine times cheaper than gas. I want to repeat that. Nine times cheaper.' I've asked this lot to 'fact check' that one from Siliband and Keith. They're in no hurry.

..and they should be given all of it

Comedy tweet. Will they make do with a weekly 👏 instead?

They should be getting a pay cut for insubordination.

JohnRentoul I've always been staggered at the discontent between junior doctors pay & the responsibilities they carry. It's immoral.

Finally, someone gets it right. That 26% has frustrated me for too long, it’s basic Maths.
