Plans for a private company to takeover Withnell Health Centre have been postponed as more talks are needed with the local health board.
Yesterday, the ICB announced after a 'full and robust review of the commissioning process' it had made the decision to abandon the current procurement process. It said this was due to a lack of patient engagement during the review. ICB maintains that patients were contacted but the board believes more could be done before a full decision is made.
“The ICB intends to undertake further engagement with patients and the community in Withnell and launch a new procurement process to award the long-term contract for the service. To ensure the continuity of services at Withnell Health Centre, the interim arrangements will be extended by 18 months. "We're feeling quite confident now that the ICB has listened to all of the 1500 emails and letters. I think we've got our points across- people like the kind of service they get from Withnell Centre, it's very patient centred and the continuity of care is crucial," Dr Margaret said.
"The loyal staff, they're very very clear in that they don't want to be working for a big organisation. I was a GP for 30 years and never knew how to submit to tender for my own job so this was something that both the GPs working there, and the practice manager, have never had to do before.
