The family of a nuclear physicist who committed suicide while locked up in a Virginia jail cell is suing the US Government, claiming the scientist would still be alive if his medication was not discontinued and he was not denied admission to a federal medical prison.

Lapp was being held at the Alexandria jail awaiting his sentencing for federal bank robbery charge when he hanged himself in May, 2001, even though a judge had ordered that he be moved to the federal medical prison center in North Carolina to continue receiving treatment for his mental health.Lapp had multiple degrees, including a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His father, Ralph Lapp, was a renowned scientist who worked on the Manhattan project.

Prosecutors alleged that Lapp had multiple romantic interests, including a Playboy model, and that “he was working to keep his romantic love interests happy with additional money.”

“Hanged himself in May 2001”? Do you even employ copy editors, ?

Very odd story. Something doesn't add up here.

The fuck?

Anyone else here getting flashbacks to Isaac Asimov's story 'Breeds there a Man...'? Just me? Never mind.

Family sues after nuclear physicist's death in Virginia jailFALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) — The family of a nuclear physicist who died by suicide in a Virginia jail is suing the U.S. government after his psychotropic medicine was discontinued and he was denied admission to a federal medical prison. What did he know and what projects did he work on before he committed suicide? As they should. Mental health treatment in this nation is slipshod at best. All kinds of folks meet tragic ends in the name of treatment. 'So Lapp remained at the Alexandria jail and a physician who evaluated him there ended his medications after Lapp insisted he did not need them. The physician also said Butner failed to send over Lapp’s full medical record.' Physicians' creed: First do no harm. Pull license.
